Welcome to the St. Mary’s Healthcare System Resource Directory

This resource directory is for families/caregivers of children who have medically complex needs or long-lasting conditions that require extra health care and support services.

The information in this directory is provided to help you find resources to assist you with finding help for your child and family. The range of care/disability/health issues varies amongst children so the information may or may not pertain to your child.

What you'll find

After a family learns that their child is ill parents/caregivers typically begin to think about how they can best care for their child. The resources in this directory include agencies, service providers, advocacy organizations, and other resources to assist with providing a quality life for children with medically complex needs.

The directory is intended to assist you with being the best advocate for your child. Although we attempt to keep the directory current resources change constantly.

  4. Early Intervention Referrals- NYC Department of Health health.ny.gov

    Early intervention services are provided to help your child grow and develop,and to help you support and promote your child’s development.
    These services include evaluation services (such as hearing and vision screening);home visits; speech, physical and other therapies; child developmentgroups; family counseling; and, sometimes, even help with transportation.

    These services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

    Any child from birth to age three with a developmental delay, disability or condition that affects development may need help.

    A 24 hour/7 day a week (English/Spanish) hotline number you can call to get more information on NYS educational services, health insurance, and financial assistance.  An operator will help you identify services you need and help you locate a provider in your area.

    Private Special education schools primarily serve specific student groups such as those that may have learning difficulties (or ADHD/ADD), be hard of hearing, deaf, speech impaired, health impaired, orthopedically impaired, mentally retarded, seriously emotionally disturbed, multi-handicapped, visually handicapped, or deaf and blind.

  7. Special Education Services -NYC schools.nyc.gov

    Ensures a free, appropriate, public education in the least restrictive environment to children ages 3-21 with disabilities who live in NYS.  Students thought to have a disability are referred to a multidisciplinary team (teacher, psychologist and therapist) called the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).  For an evaluation for special education services, contact your local school district.

  8. Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) vesid.nysed.gov

    For high school students.  Provides counselors who work with students within 2 years of expected graduation to help with the transition planning process.
