The information in this directory is provided to help you find resources to assist you with finding help for your child and family. The range of care/disability/health issues varies amongst children so the information may or may not pertain to your child.

After a family learns that their child is ill parents/caregivers typically begin to think about how they can best care for their child. The resources in this directory include agencies, service providers, advocacy organizations, and other resources to assist with providing a quality life for children with medically complex needs.

Able Ride-Nassau nassaucountyny.gov
ABLE-RIDE/PARATRANSIT PROGRAM- Nassau
This program is a curb-to-curb transportation service provided by the MTA Long Island Bus for those individuals who are unable to utilize the County’s Mass Transit System due to physical, visual or cognitive disabilities. To become enrolled a person must be certified and meet eligibility criteria determined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Reservations and advance notice are required. There is a modest fee. MTA New York City Transit operates Access-A-Ride, the City’s paratransit system. Access-A-Ride (AAR) provides transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use public bus or subway service for some or all of their trips. It offers shared ride, door-to-door paratransit service. Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.

If you are seeking free air transportation or aviation services you can send an inquiry to each appropriate organization in one easy step by providing us the necessary information about your transportation needs. Air Charity Network is a charitable organization that provides access for people in need who are seeking free air transportation to specialized health care facilities or distant destinations due to family, community, or national crisis. Air Charity Network serves all 50 states and its volunteer pilots utilize their own aircraft, fuel and time to provide free air transportation to medical facilities for citizens who are financially distressed or otherwise unable to travel on public transportation. Air Charity Network members also coordinate flights to fly organ transplant candidates, people involved in clinical trials, chemotherapy or other repetitive treatment, victims of abuse seeking relocation, families receiving help from Ronald McDonald Houses, Shriners Hospitals and many other charities, disabled or sick children to special summer camp programs, and for many other humanitarian reasons.

Since 1986, thousands of critically ill children and their families have used our respite homes free of charge to renew their energy and spirit throughout their child’s exhausting medical treatment. Believe In Tomorrow opened its first permanent pediatric respite facility in 1996, the Believe In Tomorrow House on Fenwick Island. Since then, the foundation has acquired both ocean and mountain resort properties.

Eden II Summer Camp eden2.org
The Eden II Summer Day Camp is a Medicaid Waiver program. Camp runs for two separate weeks during the summer break. Our program is designed for school age children (5-21). The pro-gram consists of a full day of recreational activities such as arts & crafts, water activities, cooking, games and sports. Summer Day Camp fees are $15.00 per day. The hours of operation are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday thru Friday.
